Nelle Fambrough Melton Obituary
Mrs. Melton died Saturday, July 18 at East Alabama Medical Center following a long illness.
Born in Atlanta, GA March 31, 1936, Mrs. Melton moved to Opelika with her husband, Stanley Rowe Melton, III in 1960. Mrs. Melton was active in her church and community. She participated in the formation of the church's Stephen Ministry, was a Lay Leader, a Sunday school teacher, a choir member and active in the Ladies' Society of Christian Service.
Mrs. Melton graduated summa cum laude from Agnes Scott College in 1958.
Her community activities involved her long service as an Opelika Library Board member and a founding member of Opelika's Delphi Study Club.
Mrs. Melton was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William McIntosh Fambrough of Columbus, Ga. She is survived by her husband Stanley Rowe Melton, III; her children, Stanley Rowe Melton, IV, Opelika, Al.; and Laurie Melton (Jon) Tate, Alpharetta, Ga.; grandchildren Thomas Bartley Melton and Evelyn Ingram Melton, Opelika; Jonathan Fuller Tate and William Andrew Tate, Alpharetta; a brother, William McIntosh Fambrough (Beverly) and nephew, William Fambrough, all of Marietta.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Opelika.
Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home is directing.

Billy, Eddie and I were saddened to here about Punky. Eddie especially has wonderful neighborhood memories about yall. She was such a smart person and I am sorry she was sick for so long. I know she will be missed. Love from Ann and Eddie Norris

Some of my fondest memories of college days include Punky. Senior opera - she was Scorpio, the arch villian, gathered around the piano in the Hub singing "Mountain Greenery," and as a member of the all girl quartet, The Dischordettes. She brightened our lives.
