C. James "Jimmy" Calmes

LUBBOCK Memorial services for C. James (Jimmy) Calmes, 82, of Lubbock will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, in the Sanctuary at First Christian Church with Dr. Michael Passmore officiating.

Mr. Calmes died on November 22, 2011

Jimmy was born September 24, 1929 to Chester J. (Chick) and Laura Calmes; he grew up in Clinton, Oklahoma, served in the Army and returned home and attended college and then pharmacy school at Southwestern University in Weatherford, Oklahoma. He married Frances Sullins, July 29, 1951. He owned pharmacies in the West Texas area moving to Lubbock in 1990, where he continued to practice his profession until 2008. He was preceded in death by his wife Frances in 1997 and his second wife Joyce Huckabay Calmes in 2003. Jimmie was active in Boys Clubs, Optimist, professional organizations, as well as his long and many faithful commitments to his church where he served in many capacities as well as being an elder. He was recognized as "Layman of the Year" for the Disciples of Christ for the entire region for his area churches. He was also recognized as a "Kentucky Colonel" by the state of Kentucky for his contributions to their genealogy department.

He is survived by his daughter Charlotte Johnson and her husband Ric, son Dr. Michael Calmes and his wife Tomi. He had five grandchildren, Ryan Johnson, Courtney Johnson, Michalea Calmes, Clinton Calmes, Laura Brandenburg and husband Hal, and one great-daughter Alicia Johnson. In addition he is survived by a brother John Calmes of Baton Rouge, La. and a sister Sally Thompson and husband Don of Borger, and their children. Also survived by his beloved yorkie, Toby.
