James Latham Obituary

ODESSA James Garland Latham Jr. (Jim) was born on April 7, 1957 in Odessa, TX to James and Gloria Latham. He passed away on September 25, 2015, after a 13 year battle with cancer.

Services will be held on Tuesday, September 29th, 10:00am at Second Baptist Church.

On June 10, 1978, Jim married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Sandy Latham. He owned and operated Latham Printing for over thirty-five years. Jim was an active member at Second Baptist Church and helped establish the Upwards Basketball program. Throughout the years he collected cards and met many famous athletes. Not only did he have a love for sports, he was also an accomplished athlete himself. Jim was also a great story-teller and was always cracking jokes. His grandchildren were the light of his life and in the past years, Jim and Sandy took their grandchildren on many vacations. This was one of his favorite things to do.

He is preceded in death by his parents, son, Adam Latham, and brothers, Randy, Ronnie and Roger Perrin.

Jim is survived by his wife, Sandy, son, Jim and daughter-in-law Amber, daughter-in-law, Amanda Curnutt, grandchildren, Jayden Curnutt, Jim Latham, Lucas Latham, Rylan Cutting, Hailey Vesley and Lillian Belle Latham, sisters, Jamie Smith, Deanna Layman, Debbie Reed and Dale Anderson. He also had many other family members and friends who loved him dearly.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to The Upwards Basketball Program at Second Baptist Church.

"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." Revelation 21:4

Services are entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

Jim was a great guy. He was always so happy and pleasant in any dealing that I had with him. He never mentioned his battle, but had a great outlook on everything he spoke about. He will be missed by many.

Sandy, I'm so very sorry to hear about Jim. I know Jim was so in love with you and so very proud of his sons. It's just not right to bury your husband at such a young age. I will pray that the Lord will give you strength to face each and every day.

Sandy, I'm so so sorry to hear about Jim. What little I talked to Jim I knew he was so in love with you. He was also very proud of his sons. It's not fair that you have to go on without him. Your son needs you here and he gets to go be with your son in heaven.

Jim was an awesome Christian and a great inspiration for all of us. As a cancer survivor myself, Jim was always ready to help and encourage me. I learned many things about God from Jim. My life has been greatly blessed by my friendship with Jim. Sandy, please know that I will not cease to pray for you and it is an honor to know you all. Jim lives on in all who knew him! Bill Cass
