George A. Thomas, 93, of Washington, formerly of Bridgeport, Ohio, passed away peacefully Monday, September 13, 2021, in Southmont of Presbyterian Senior Care.
He was born February 1, 1928, in Wheeling, W.Va., a son of the late Matthew and Christina Manis Thomas.
Mr. Thomas was a 1945 graduate of Bridgeport High School in Bridgeport. He went on to serve in the United States Air Force.
Mr. Thomas worked as a salesman in the food service industry for more than 40 years up until his retirement.
He was a member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church in Canonsburg, and was also a member of AHEPA and the Pan Cretan Association. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
On November 7, 1948, he married the love of his life, JoAnn Thomas, who died January 21, 2016. The couple had been married for 67 years.
Surviving are three sons, Gregory M. (Christy) Thomas of Washington, George A. (Anita) Thomas Jr. of Moon Township and Christopher A. (Lucinda) Thomas of Maylene, Ala.; eight grandchildren, Diana, John, Brandon (Nicole), Greg II (Marci), George III (Megan), Christina (Ryan), Angela and Nicholas; 12 great-grandchildren, Chelsea, John, Brandon Jr., Layne, Dylan, Cody, Brianna, Isabella, Luke, Landon, Sophia and Damian; and a great-great-grandson, Elijah. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by three brothers, Michael, Harold and Manuel Thomas.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, September 19, in Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc., Wilson at East Katherine Avenue, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, supervisor / director, Holly Renay Warco, director, S. Timothy Warco II, director, Park N. Crosier, director.
Trisagion services will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
Additional visitation will be held 10 to 11 a.m., the hour of a funeral service, Monday, September 20, in the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, Canonsburg, with Father George Athanasiou officiating.
Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
In the continued interest of public health and safety, the Thomas family asks that those attending the visitation and funeral service please wear a facial covering.
