William Braun Obituary

William C. "Bill" Braun, Jr., died Friday, April 7, 2023, in the Donnell House of Concordia Hospice.

Bill was born November 4, 1934, in Wheeling, W.Va., a son of the late William C. Braun, Sr., and Mary M. Byrd Braun.

He was a graduate of Wheeling High School and helped organize the annual picnic for many years until 2019.

Bill was the Vice President of Modern Business Machines.

In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. However, his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.

Bill served 32 years on the Washington School Board and was a Prexie football fan. He was a fanatic for the West Virginia Mountaineers and all of their sports teams. He coached small bore rifle shooting at Frazier Simplex and the Dormont-Mount Lebanon Sportsman's club.

He was a member of the Washington Rotary Club and a lifetime member of both B.P.O.E. #776 and the NRA.

Bill was a member of The Church of the Covenant, where he served as a deacon.

Bill served 42 years in the U.S. Navy Reserves before his retirement.

On September 24, 1955, in Wheeling, W.Va., he married the love of his life, Betty, who survives.

Also surviving are four daughters, Rebecca (Jim) Braun Champlin of Uniontown, Barbara (Steve) Braun Charles of Columbus, Ohio, Brenda Braun of Washington, and Beth (Denise) Braun of Washington; a son, William C. (Lori) Braun III of Silverdale, Wash.; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Deceased are two brothers, Robert and John Braun.

Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m., on Tuesday, in the Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m., on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, with Reverend Billy Younger officiating. Interment will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Military honors will be afforded by the U.S. Navy and Edwin Scott Linton Post #175 of the American Legion.

The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to The Church of the Covenant, 267 E Beau Street, Washington, PA 15301, or The Donnell House of Concordia Hospice, 10 Leet Street, Washington, PA 15301.

Betty and Family....my heartfelt sympathy on the loss of Bill. I first met him when he served on the Greater Wash. Area Parks & Rec. Commission. He was a staunch supporter of doing what was right for the people of Washington. He was one of a kind. I pray that God will support you during this sad time. God bless you.
