James Rozendaal Obituary

INDEPENDENCE - The Rev. James E. Rozendaal, 87, of Independence, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2022, at Prairie Hills Assisted Living & Memory Care, Independence. He was born Oct. 13, 1934, in Watertown, South Dakota, to the Rev. Herman and Reca (Wilkens) Rozendaal. He graduated from Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Michigan, in 1959. Marriage: May 31, 1957, to Shirley Adel Meyer near Woden, Iowa. Rev. Rozendaal pastored Reformed Churches, Presbyterian, and United Methodist Churches in Iowa, retiring in 1999. Survivors include his wife Shirley, son James Paul (Yolly), Iowa City, daughter Janet (Dave) Harms, Independence, and fiancée of son David, Tricia Holtorf, Ankeny, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a sister Joanne Hoff, extended family and many friends.
Funeral services: 2?p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, First United Methodist Church, Independence with the Rev. Paul Evans and the Rev. Erica MacCreaigh officiating. Burial: Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation: an hour before services at the church. Online condolences may be left at www.White-MtHope.com. The service will be live streamed on the church's FaceBook page. White Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
