Laidig

Catherine Douds Laidig, 94, went home to be with the Lord on April 9, 2004, surrounded by her family.

Catherine was a dear mother and friend; a talented seam stress, a maker of fine wines, and a superb gardener. She excelled at crafts of all kinds. Catherine was an original "Rosy the Riveter" for Goodyear, dur ing World War II. Born in Greensburg, Pa., she lived in the Akron area for most of her life. Catherine was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, AARP, and the Altar and Rosary Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jere Donald Laidig, four brothers, and two sisters. She leaves behind, to celebrate her wonderful life, her three devoted sons, Jere David (Peggy), Glenn Robert (Barbara), and Dennis Barton (Can dace); nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, two great- great-grandchildren; brother, William (Dorothy) Douds; and sister, Ollie (Jimmy) Carasella.

The entire Laidig family owes a deep debt of gratitude to Tony and Jim Fugate for the great care and love that they have shown Catherine.

Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, 11 a.m., at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2603 Benton St., Akron, with Father Michael Williamson officiating. Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call Monday, 6 to 8 p.m., at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Rd., Akron. Memorials may be made to New Horizons Adult Day Care Center at Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital.
