Doris Sherrill Obituary

Doris E. (Church) Sherrill

Lord, now lettest thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word. (Luke 2:29)

On August 25, 2014, our cherished mom, grandma and great-grandma took God's hand and entered into Heaven to once again be with her husband, Jim; her parents, Conley and Mamie Church; her brothers, Louis, Conley, Jr. and Eddie Church; her sister, Wanda Bauer; and her nephews, Kenny Church and Michael Tully.

Doris is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Jack Klodt and Diane and Ross Pollock; her grandsons of whom she was extremely proud, Jarrod (Lindsay) Klodt, Bradley Pollock and Bryan Pollock; her great-grandchildren who brought her many joys, Sam and Lyla Klodt; her brother-in-law, Clyde Sherrill; her sisters-in-law, Mary Alice Church, Frances Tully and Lois (Dave) Gould; her cousin, Sally Mallory; and numerous nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved. She is also survived by her "foreign exchange student daughter" from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Ginnie (Pou) de Castro and Ginnie's husband, César and their children, Graciela, César Enrique and Máximo. Doris is fondly remembered by her "honorary daughter" of Akron, Ohio, Roberta Petrasek.

Born in Akron, Ohio, on May 7, 1934, Doris attended Akron Garfield High School. Doris was a long-time resident of Mogadore, Ohio. She was an active member of the Mogadore Christian Church. Doris recently retired from Community Health Center. She also volunteered for many years at Akron General Hospital and enjoyed her time there with friends.

Doris especially loved attending her grandsons' sporting events and was their biggest fan. She enjoyed traveling to warm and sunny places with her family and friends who always looked forward to her bringing "goodie" bags. Doris filled all the holidays with fun and smiles for her family, including giving unique Christmas stockings and making her delicious New Year's Day dinner, as well as her famous red velvet "rat tail" cake.

Doris earned the nickname, the "Energizer Bunny" from her daughters because she refused to allow her health issues over the past 20 years to slow her down. She just kept going and going, keeping a positive outlook and never complaining. Her incredible strength and courage and the wonderful memories she created will inspire and comfort us forever.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at the MOGADORE Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 34 S. Cleveland Avenue (Route 532), Mogadore, Ohio 44260. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home, with Pastor Elmer S. Johnson and retired Dr. Eugene F. Higgins officiating. Burial will follow the service at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Mogadore Christian Church, 106 S. Cleveland Avenue, Mogadore, Ohio 44260.

Diane and Debbie, My sister Ruth died one day after her first cousin Doris Eileen. Doris, Eddie and Lewis visited in her homein West Virginia. I am still in Virginia following Ruth's funeral. I am so glad that I reconnected with my dear cousin Doris E.
last winter in Fort Lauderdale. Ruth & Joyce, fresh out of high school, came to live with Aunt Mamie & Uncle Conley in Akron during WWII working in the rubber factories.. I got to go with my Mom and Dad often to visit in the city and their family would come often to visit on our farm in West Virginia. I was so looking forward to her visit this winter in my home and going to Jaxsons Ice Cream Parlor again! Much love! Your cousin.....Doris Ann Church Campbell Fort Lauderdale, Florida

I just read the loving obituary for my first cousin Doris Church who was born one month later than was born. What fun we had since we were both named Doris Church! Signed Doris Ann Church Campbell, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Dear Debbie and Diane;
I am sending my deepest sympathies to you and your families at the loss of your Mom. I was home in June and was so wonderfully surprised to see her at Mom and Dad's anniversary party. What a joy she was! I have many fond memories of spending time with you and your parents when we were growing up. May you find some comfort knowing that now she's with your Dad. Your Mom was a great friend to my parents and for that I am truly thankful. God Bless!
Sincerely,
Debby Moore O'Brien

Jarrod, Lindsay, Sam, Lyla and the Klodt family,

So sorry to learn of your mothers/grandmothers/great grandmothers passing. May you all reflect on those wonderful memories she created for you and may those memories eventually replace the sadness in your hearts that you're feeling today.

Diane-I'm so very sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. She was a wonderful lady. I have fond memories of looking out the back windows of our house on Fairfield to see your Mom watering flowers and just enjoying her back yard. Know that she is looking over you and your family. Thinking of you, Debbie and your families now and praying for strength to help you through the days ahead.

Doris will be so missed by her family and friends. She was always the life of any party. Though she's gone from us she is no longer in any pain or suffering and has now joined her loved ones who have been waiting for her. Our sincere sympathy to all her beloved family.

Doris brought a brightness to the Community Health Center and we miss her. One of my favorite memories of her was when she was late for a dinner because she had to stop and help "an older couple" who had car trouble. She never saw herself as old.
