Another year another birthday. I still miss you so bad and it absolutely kills me that you will never get to meet your first granddaughter. She is something else Dad. You two would have had a ball together. She's spirited like you. She will be one soon so I expect you to be watching her blow out her candles. I love you Dad. Happy birthday.

Judy, Ron & Erik, Barb and the girls,
I'm so, so sorry. Marc and I talked a lot by phone after he retired. Please know that he spoke often of his family -- 'cause he loved each and every one of you. And I loved him as one of my very own. I pray that God brings comfort and solace to your daily living.

To the Finney Family,
In life you only get a few very dear and close friends. I was lucky to call Marc one of mine. He was always there to listen and help. He was only a phone call away. I know he is in a better place now with no more pain. I hope the void you are feeling can ease with time. There are so many wonderful funny stories about Marc, I hope thinking about them finds you comfort. Know he will be missed terribly by those who knew and cared about him.

To the Finney's,
Marc was my best friend and like you I will miss him dearly. Everyone he came in contact with was touched by either his humor or his compassion, most of us were lucky enough to experience both. Marc taught many things to many people. He taught me to say ourfeetarestained instead of goodbye and spank yew instead of thank you! He taught me to prepare prime rib. More than anything Marc taught me what it means to be a true friend, he supported and helped me through my darkest days. I can only hope that I learned those lessons well and can be the friend that he taught me to be.
I'll miss you my friend and until we meet again.....OURFEETARESTAINED

Finney Family,

I had the privilege of working with Marc at several stations during his career at AFD. Marc had the gift of being able to put a smile on the faces of his co-workers. I have good memories of Marc and that will get me through this tough time. I believe and hope that your memories of Marc will also help you in your time of sorrow.

Marc was a fellow classmate in the Fire Academy 30 years ago. He was such a pleasant person who was able to put a smile on anyone's face through his wit and humor. May your fond memories of Marc help comfort you during this difficult time.

Barb & girls, my thoughts are with you all. It has been many years since we have seen each other, but I think of you often. Marc was one of the best, kind, efficient medics I knew. Most importantly he was a good friend and cook. I loved coming to your house and hanging with you all! I will pray for strength for you.

March 28, 2012

Obviously everyone remembers Marc's humor, how could you miss it? And yet he accomplished so much, seemingly effortlessly, and often in spite of the constraints he worked within. Truly a loss, and a diminution in the quality of life for those of us remaining. He is already missed!

March 28, 2012

When I think of Marc, or " Mr. Finney" as I typically called him, I remember what a tremendous father he was. You could just see that his family was what meant the most to him in life. He was always very caring and had a great sense of humor. I recall when I was younger he offered to make a resume for me. I could barely find it he had copied so many funny files and jokes to the disc. When I did find it, he had put it onto every version of windows that existed at the time. He said "i wasn't sure what kind of program you had." That is exactly the type of guy he was, the type that would do anything for you, and anything to make you had a laugh along the way as well. He truely will be missed by all that knew him.

March 28, 2012

Khalil Gibran said "When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight." Marc was a delight to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. May your hearts be comforted in the days ahead.

Daddy, you were one of the best, and everyone that met you knew it. You taught me everything I know. You taught me to treat everyone with respect and you taught me to be a patient kind person. You were and always will be my hero, best friend, and the best dad anyone could ask for. I love you always and forever, and you will always be in my heart and my mind. I miss you.

What is there to say about my dad that most don't already know? He was a warm hearted person with a good heart and a great sense of humor. He was always there for me at my best and my worst. We had many good times where we would just sit share goofy stories and laugh. He told me all of his good fire stories and I always knew he had good friends who cared for him and our family and I am thankful that he had people around to take care of him when I couldn't be there to do it. My father was my best friend and I miss him terribly. He taught me everything from how to be a decent person to how to be a good wife and daughter. Nothing will every be able to replace the mark he made on our lives but I will always remember him for who he was... my friend and my father. I love you daddy and will miss you very much.

I was fortunate to have worked with Marc the last few years at First Call. When I was “the rookie” he showed me the ropes and shared his wealth of experience with me like an old pro. I'm sure he did that with many others he knew and worked with over the years. He was an intelligent guy and we had many animated conversations about everything from politics and cooking to public schools and his girls (girls – he was so proud of you!). I was glad to have known him and I know he is and will be missed. My deepest sympathies to friends and family.

Dad,
I believe that we are all put here on this Earth for a purpose, with a gift. I know that your gift was kindness, humor, generosity and compassion. You taught your girls that we should treat others with kindness, no matter what. I hope to continue your gift and honor you in this way. Thank you for teaching us, being a shoulder to cry on when we were hurt, and helping to mold us into the women we are today. Do not worry about us, we will be okay. We love you. I love you and miss you terribly.
