HURON -- William "Bill" Henkel, 66, of Huron, died Saturday, March 8, 2008 at his residence under Stein Hospice Care.
He was born on November 16, 1941 in Cleveland and had been a resident of Huron since 1993 moving from Akron. He formerly owned and operated VIB-"E" Lure Company of Huron, retiring in 2006. Prior to that he co-owned H.N. & Associates of Cleveland, until 1975. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Huron. He was a semi-pro bowler; semi-pro fisherman; and a great golfer. He was the recipient of the Master Angler Award several times. He was a member of the Rod Builders Association.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca (Robertson), married to for 31 years, a son, William and a grandson. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Vavra (Bratkovsky) and stepfather, George Vavra, and a son, Robert.
Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Foster Funeral Home, 410 Main Street, Huron, where services will be Friday at 11 a.m., with Rev. Jeffery Sikorski officiating. Burial will follow at Scott Cemetery, Huron. Contributions may be made to Stein Hospice Services, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, 44870 or to St. Peter Church, 430 Main Street, Huron 44839.
