Alvin Jones Obituary

Alvin James was born on July 30, 1914 in Vinland, Kansas to James & Mary Jones. He died May 25, 2003 in OKC. He grew up in Lawrence, KS & later moved to Oklahoma. He married Bernice Dean on Feb. 1, 1945. They have 2 sons, Bobby Ewing & his wife, Kay, and Jerry & his wife, Glynnelle. He is survived by his wife, sons, 4 grandchildren, Robbie, Paula, Chris, & Kyle, and 4 great grandchildren, Carrie, Janie, Blake, & Bailey, 4 brothers, James, Frank, Gene & Jack, 5 sisters, Hazel, Betty, Mildred, Vera & Joyce. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Cyrus, Robert, & Delbert, and sister, Dorothy. During WWII, he was a test pilot at Douglas Aviation. After the war, he and Bernice opened A & B Grocery on NE 5th. In 1969, they sold the store and opened Tastee Foods on N. May. Alvin encouraged and assisted many youngsters to become active in sports. A & B sponsored many baseball teams in the neighborhood. One team advanced to the OKC Adult Sandlot League They owned & operated Green Pastures Ball Park. In later years, he was an avid bowler & gardener. Memorials may be made in Alvin's memory to Infant Crisis Services or Regional Food Bank of OK. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Services will be Wed. May 28 at 10:00 a.m. at the Vondel South Colonial Chapel with interment at Arlington Memory Gardens. VONDEL L. SMITH & SON MORTUARY 6934 S. Western 634-1439
