DEAN JOHNSON

Sept. 18, 1930 - Aug. 5, 2013 EDMOND Memorial services for Dr. Dean Leroy Johnson are scheduled for Friday, 9 August 2013, at 2:00 PM at Quail Springs United Meth-odist Church, 14617 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Oklahoma City, OK 73134.Dean was born on 18 September 1930 in Lock Haven, PA to L. Sidney and Lulu Annabelle Shirk Johnson. A graduate of Lock Haven High School, he completed his dental degree at Temple University in 1954. Upon graduation Dean began a twenty year career in the United States Navy, culminating with a deployment at the Naval Graduate Dental School in Bethesda, MD where he taught removable prosthodontics and retired as Chief of Prosthodontics in 1974, while concurrently earning a Master's Degree in Higher Education at George Washington University.In 1974 Dean began a second career on the faculty of the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry. During twenty years of teaching he authored numerous professional scientific publications and one textbook. He served as the Chairman of Removable Prosthodontics and the Director of the Graduate Prosthodontics Program. He retired as professor emeritus in 1995. He served his profession in various capacities including president of the American College of Prosthodontics in 1982.Dean's third career was as a farmer, well known locally for his premium fresh asparagus. He was a longtime member of Quail Springs United Methodist Church, involved in both the adult small group and as a longtime teacher of an adult Sunday School class.Dean was preceded in death by his older brother Ted. Survivors include Sally, his wife of 60 years of the home, son Richard and wife Gay Johnson of Edmond, OK, daughter Katherine and husband Sid Goodrich of Tulsa, OK, son Douglas and wife Jackie Johnson of Edmond, OK, son Thomas and wife Lisa Johnson of Park City, UT. Grandchildren are Braydn and Katie Johnson of Edmond, Stuart and Emma Johnson of Park City, and Dean Goodrich of Tulsa, and great-grandchild Hudson Johnson of Edmond.Services will be conducted by Dr. David M. Clewell.
