FRITZIE JEZEK Obituary

June 24, 1929 - Feb 28, 2015 EDMOND Fritzie Powell Jezek was born in Byars, Oklahoma, on June 24, 1929, and died on February 28, 2015, at 85 years old. She was the youngest child of Jewel and John Burler "JB" Powell and their only girl. Her nickname "Fritzie" was given to her by her brothers, Thurman, Leon, and Ray, whom she adored. Her parents and brothers preceded her in death. She grew up to become a beautiful, petite young woman with dark hair and sparkling brown eyes. She finished her education at Classen High School and became a bookkeeper. She had her share of beaus, but her heart was set on marrying Billy Joe Jezek, who was a year older and lived in her neighborhood. Married in Norman, Oklahoma, on November 26, 1949, they shared 53 years together before Bill died in 2002 from cancer. Bill and Fritzie's four daughters were their greatest joy. Their firstborn daughter, Debbie (Randy Upchurch), was followed by Diane, Dana (Max Tilford), and Lisanne (Holly Iker). Fritzie sewed the majority of her daughters' clothes and kept several children during the day to help make ends meet while Bill went to university to earn his degree in geology. Their home was filled with music on the stereo, the laughter of a house filled with kids and the smell of homemade cookies and bread. After Bill's graduation, the family spent three years on a training program in Corpus Christie, Texas; Casper, Wyoming; and Wichita, Kansas. Transferred back to Oklahoma City, the family returned to their home on Lakeside Drive in The Village. Their last home on Crossing Drive in Edmond, Oklahoma, was their dream home and brought them much pleasure. Their first grandchild, Kyle, gave Fritzie the name "Prizzie" and this adoring name was used by everyone who loved her. Her grandchildren were born in the following order: Debbie and Randy's three boys, Kyle (Amy), Brad (Liz), and Drew (Lindsay); Diane and Stan's children, Jess (Scott) and Travis; Lisanne and Brad's son, Adam; Dana and Max's son, Shaun (Meghann); Lisanne and Brad's daughter, Holly; Dana and Max's daughter and son, Lauren (Brandon) and Casey; Lisanne and Barry's children, Anna and Cole; and Lisanne and Holly's son, Matthew. There was great joy in the family with the addition of great-grandchildren, Gavin and Adrian (Kyle/Amy), Parker, Allie, and Mason (Shaun/Meghann), Claire (Drew/Lindsay), Carson (Brad/Liz), Jonathon (Holly); and a great-granddaughter to be born to Jess and Scott in June. Fritzie shared an unshakable love of the LORD with her family. She was our greatest encourager, strongest defender and forever optimist. We will miss her greatly and look forward to the day we will see her again in heaven. Private services have been held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to your favorite charity or the Oklahoma Chapter of The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society.
