One can't think of Ringling without thinking of Coach Gandy. Those who had the opportunity to play for and coach with him were certainly blessed. To the Gandy/Ringling family, I'm sorry for your loss.

Rick was the greatest man I've ever known, he helped so many kids without even letting anybody else know. He dedicated his whole life to family and the Ringling community and to all the kids there. God Bless You Rick for all the memories and all the blessings you gave us. You are still the Man ,Coach.

I had the privilege of being on Coach Gandy's team that reached the State Finals the first time in 1975. That was and still is a very precious memory for me. The one thing that makes me prouder than playing football for Coach was being his brother-in-law for the past 40 years.

Daddy, I'm in Minneapolis just thinking of all the great times we've had. I'm trying to make the days so far away from home and I don't know if it's all the big games we won, all the good times we've had working together, or all the great bird hunts and fishing trips we had. I'm just missing and thinkin of you. I love you, #22

Coach Gandy was avery special person in the coaching profession. He had a lot of success at Ringling on and of the football field. As a coach he is one of the guys that you wanted to be like. He represented this professionwith a great deal of pride and comittment. The coaching profession has truely lost a gentleman.

I wanted to express my sympathies and sadness at the loss of “Coach”; I guess that was his name to all of us. I am not sure he even knew how forever he touched and shaped our lives. “Coach” taught me Drivers-Ed, and yes I caused him a lot of gray hairs that semester. I was the one student that almost wrecked the car twice in one day. BUT he didn’t give up on me, and I guess he did a good job; I have driven all over the country with no accidents.
If you thought of Ringling Football of course there was no distinguishing between “Coach “and Ringling Football. They were one in the same. Every Friday night as we were in the stands we knew who was leading us on, “Coach”
I won’t be able to attend, but as I look at the beautiful Rocky Mountains from Denver, Colorado on Friday I will be saying a prayer for the Gandy Family and the Blue Devil Family.
Thanks”Coach” enjoy heaven

To Phyllis, Tracy, Richie, and family,
I'm so sadden by the sudden loss of such a wonderful man. I know Coach Gandy was a good husband and father, but he was also so much more. Most people will remember him as the great coach that he was, but I will always remember what a great man he was. Coach was my Driver's Ed teacher and one time I was driving and we were talking about the football games, boring the two girls in the back seat who didn't know anything about football. This happened to be the year that Fox was beating all their opponents by 60 points. We had yet to play them, so we were talking about how terrible it was that the Fox Coaches kept their first string team in to win by such a huge amount each and every game. I ask why Coach never did that, he said,"I wait till we are up about 20 points then put the third and fourth strings in. Then what Coach said next has stayed with me forever--He said,"There is no reason to not let your third and fourth string have play time, they practice hard and this gives them time, and the fan's certainly don't enjoy a game more when it's so one sided, but mostly their is no good reason to kill the spirit of the opposing team. He said that it just crushes the boys spirit to lose like that. Coach said there was no good reason to humiliate a team. He of course wanted to win, but not to the point it would hurt others. That is the day I came to know Coach Gandy as a great man with a generous heart and I respected him so much more for that. So my heart and prayers go out to all of his family members, and I hope that the memories and words from those of us who knew and loved him, help lessen the sting of his passing to a better place. There is a song that comes to mind now called "I'm in better hands now" and I think that he is. May God grant you peace in your time of sorrow. love the Tyson family

My sympathy to the family. Growing up in Ringling I saw first hand what type of a man Rick Gandy was, and I would have to say he is number one in my books. He was a great football coach and all the kids respected him and loved him. He was also a great family man too, it was obvious that he loved his family and he loved life. I think those of us who have had the opportunity to know him, are truly blessed because of it. His determination and drive to always do your best made a huge impact in a lot of lives. He will be missed.

This is sad news indeed. I had the good fortune of meeting Coach Gandy while working on a story about him after his accident three years ago. He had an amazing spirit about him, and even though his body was broken, that spirit was not.
Coach Gandy had such an amazing impact on his players. Generations of young men in Ringling were impacted by his coaching.
That legacy will endure forever.
My condolences to the entire Gandy family and to the town of Ringling. You have lost a great man, but his life's work lives on in you.
