William Alford "Bill" Cowan

William Cowan Obituary

William 'Bill' Alford Cowan died peacefully on December 5, 2006 at the Norman Veterans Center in Norman, Oklahoma. Although, he will be greatly missed by friends and family, we celebrate his life. Born in Moore, Oklahoma on October 19, 1917, Bill was a second generation Oklahoman and the seventh generation of Patriots of the American Revolution. Bill was the son of Rachel (Siler) Cowan and James A. Cowan I, a lawyer and pioneer of the Moore area. Bill attended Moore High School and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a 32nd degree Freemason and a member of Myrtle Lodge. Bill enjoyed traveling and resided briefly in Canada, Oregon, and Arizona. He worked at Tinker AFB for the FAA until retirement. Bill was preceded in death by his son, Mark; his parents; his wife of twenty years, Dena (Martin) Cowan; his sisters, Edith C. Gillette, Opal C. Boulton Garland, Helen Rachel Cowan; and his twin brother, James Alvis Cowan II. He is survived by his son, William Reginald Cowan and several nieces and nephews, Joye Swain, B.C. Groves, Ellen C. Benharbit, Susan Nichols, James Alvis Cowan III, Rachel Hughes, Bobby Cowan, Alvina Wilks, and George Cowan. A memorial will take place at the John Ireland Funeral Home in Moore on January 13, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Alleve Hospice, 8524 South Western, Suite 105, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73139.
