Mildred Fisher Obituary

Mildred "Mil" P. Fisher

June 13, 1923 - August 3, 2024

Mildred "Mil" P. Fisher, age 101, of Omaha, passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2024. Born in Cincinnati, OH, June 13, 1923, to Louis and Grace Phillips and raised in Terre Haute, IN.

After receiving both Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, she taught at Indiana University, placed doctors for a medical personnel bureau in Chicago, IL, and was a training manager for Weiboldt's department store in Chicago. While she took time out to care for a son and daughter, she was a Gallup Poll interviewer, a volunteer for the state mental institution, president and superintendent of the Park Forest section of the National Council of Jewish Women, and substitute teacher at local high schools. At 40, Mil returned to full-time work as a high school guidance counselor for the next 20 years at Rich Central High School in Olympia Fields, IL, and served a six year term on the Park Forest Village Library Board. In 1985, she moved to Florida with her husband, Hal, who had worked for CBS News for 40 years. Mil was active in Sarasota in the National Council of Jewish Women, a Court Observer for Gender Equity and the Law, and an active Tidewell Hospice speakers' bureau member. Mil was listed in one of the first Who's Who among Women and later in Who's Who in the Midwest.

Her husband of 50 years, Hal, precedes her in death. She is survived by her son, Brian (Patty); and daughter, Lynn (Jim).

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Mil Phillips Fisher Scholarship Fund at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, or to the Tidewell Foundation in Sarasota, FL.
