Donald Schieferstine Obituary

LOWELL >> Donald B. Schieferstine, age 81, of Schieferstine Road passed away Monday evening Oct. 7, 2013 in SUNY Upstate Medical Center.
He was born on Sept. 30, 1932 in Rome, N.Y. a son of the late Robert "Bob" and Delletta (Kobler) Schieferstine and was a graduate of Westmoreland School.
On April 16, 1955 Donald and Ann West were united in the Lowell United Methodist Church and shared a loving union until Ann's death on April 16, 2002.
Prior to his retirement in 1998 Donald owned and operated the Schieferstine Farm in Lowell. He enjoyed his retirement by taking trips, rides in the country and having breakfast every other week with his high school classmates.
Surviving are his four sons and three daughters-in-law: son, David and Bonnie Schieferstine of Lowell and their family Brian Schieferstine, Jacob and Stephanie Schieferstine and their children, Elizabeth, Rebecca and Alexander Schieferstine; son, Daniel and Laurie Schieferstine of Verona and their family Josh and Matt Schieferstine; son, Dwayne and Tressa Schieferstine of Lowell and their family Amy and Emily Schieferstine, and son, Douglas Schieferstine of Lowell, a lady friend Kate Harrington of Rome as well as several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Lowell United Methodist Church, Lowell Road and State Route 26, Lowell, N.Y. Donald's graveside funeral service will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. in the Lowell Cemetery, Blackmans Corners Road, Lowell. In the event of rain on Friday, the funeral service will be held at the church. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the American Diabetes Association, 1110 Lomond Place, No. 1, Utica, N.Y. 13501 or the Lowell Cemetery Association, c/o Daniel Reed, 6340 State Route 26, Rome, N.Y. 13440. Arrangements are with the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., Vernon.
