Harvey Elliott Obituary

Harvey J. Elliott Jr., 81, of Shipman passed away Monday, Aug. 5, 2005, at his residence.

Born June 8, 1924, in Dawson Springs, Kentucky, he was a son of the late H.J. Elliott, Sr. and Mary Ann Robertson Elliott. Besides his parents his brothers Mack, Eugene and Bobby Elliott preceded him in death.

Harvey grew up in Nelson Co. and was a graduate of Lovingston High School and continued his education at Biltmore College in N. C. majoring in Civil Engineering. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII as a bar specialist in the Pacific Theatre of operations in the Philippines.

He married Gladys on Sept. 29, 1950, and was a building contractor in the Washington, D.C. area for many years. He was the first building official for Nelson Co. and after his retirement he served on the Nelson county Board of Supervisors. He was a member and past president of VFW Post # 7701 of Colleen a member and former Deacon of Calvary Baptist Church in Lovingston.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Gladys Jane Elliott; his son, H. Wayne Elliott and his wife, Marcia, of Mt. Solon, Va. He was blessed with two granddaughters, A. Blair Elliott of Arlington and Alison Munoz and her husband, Paolo, of McLean and a great grandson, Conner. Two sisters, Bernice Cameron of Katy, TX and Faye McClanahan of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005, at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. John P. Campbell and Rev. John Gordon officiating with Interment in Mt. View Cemetery in Lovingston. Military Rites will be accorded by VFW Post # 7701 of Colleen.

The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and suggests that memorials take the form of contributions to Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 264, Lovingston, VA 22949.

Mr. Elliott was my uncle. We shared many happy times and he will be missed for is sense of humor, his great kindness and wisdom. My siblings and I have been truly blessed to have him in our lives and to be an influence in shaping our views on life and family.
