The first time I met nanny was also my first date with Dwain. I fell in love with her right off the bat. I could tell she was a sweet, kind and giving woman by the way she spoke of her family and friends...
Through the near six years that I knew her, there was rarely ever a Sunday that she didn't cook. She knew what we all liked, and cooked some of everything, or something for everyone. I loved her cornbread, Reese loved her macaroni and cheese (I still don't cook it like nanny)and Chess liked her greenbeans. I think she cooked in hopes it would bring her family by to visit. I know that's why my granny always said she cooked on Sundays... and nanny had many similar traits as my granny. Maybe that's why I always felt at home there.
Dwain and I spent our first Christmas night together at nanny's house... and she stayed several Christmas's with us after Reese was born. It was nice knowing she got to watch the kids open their gifts Christmas morning... and afterwards She'd sit in a chair in the kitchen and talk to me while I cooked breakfast, about all the things she had to cook when she got home, and who she thought might come, and might not. I'd tell her not to over do it... but she always did.
I'm proud got to do some things for nanny... cut her hair from time to time, take her shopping, fixed her up for her high school reunion (which was a blast), she'd ask me to fix her needles and I would... I'd go get produce for her, or take her with me. I think she picked up and pinched everything they had to see if it was fresh....I wish I hadn't been so selfish with my time now, and done more.
I will and already do, truly miss her.

Mrs. Reese was my neighbor in Royston when I was in my early teens. She was always very helpful and kind to me when my mother was at work. Carol your Mom was a very good person. Please express my deepest sympathy to your family.
