Mike Lisano Obituary
Dr. Lisano was a well-known professor of zoology and physiology, and also Associate Dean of the Graduate School at Auburn University for 30 years. In 1994, he founded Lisano International, a foreign educational credential evaluation service company. He lived an accomplished life, receiving a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University, as well as Master's and Bachelor's Degrees from Sam Houston State University.
Dr. Lisano is survived by wife, Debbie Lisano; son, Dr. Michael (Hui) Lisano II, of Pasadena, Calif.; daughter, Stefani (Pierre) Thabuis, of Annecy, France; son, Jerry (Jenna) Henson, of Yorktown, Va.; daughter, Dina (Jamie) Popwell, of Fort Worth, Texas; grandchildren, Anna, Tristan, Michael, Alexis, Madison, Morgan, and Conner; brother, Jim Lisano, of Pasadena, Texas; sister, Gloria (Ken) Craib, of Savannah; and his beloved basset hound, Scout.
A memorial service is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Monday, June 25, at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 100 Church Street, Auburn, Ala. The family will receive visitors at 5 p.m.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Bethany House (1171 Gatewood Dr., Auburn, AL 36830), Four Paws Rescue (1027 Opelika Rd., Auburn, AL 36830), the American Cancer Society (3054 McGehee Rd., Montgomery, AL 36111), or Holy Trinity Episcopal Church (100 Church Dr., Auburn, AL 36830).

Many, many people in NAFSA, and especially Region VII, came to know and respect Mike over the years. I'm sure that many of the names writing comments here (including mine) might not be known by family members and close friends....but this just speaks highly as to his strong reputation in our field. Dear Debbie,
I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with your and your family during this time.
I shall miss Mike and our regular exchanges about credentials and AICE very much. He was, until the end, a relentless advocate for our Association and was always the first to show his support. I could always count on Mike! And, most especially, I shall miss his wit and generous spirit.
Mike used to end his correspondence with “Ciao,” which always brought a smile to my face and heart. So, I shall do the same by bidding a dear friend and colleague "Ciao."
