GEORGE COOPER HARDY

1934 - 2014

Hardy, George Cooper, 80, of San Clemente, CA (former longtime resident of Apple Valley, CA) passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on October 3, 2014 from complications following cancer treatment. He was born in North Hollywood, CA on April 23, 1934 and spent most of his summers from age 7 until 18 commercially fishing with his two uncles. After serving 2 years in the US Army in Germany, he returned to the US to spend most of his career in finance. He was an Accountant, a Controller and lastly a Stockbroker. During his residence in Apple Valley, he served on the boards of Easter Seals, March of Dimes, Cancer Society and Hospice. He was also a member of Lions Club and Rotary Club. After retiring, he moved to San Clemente and returned to his love of being on the water. George and his wife Sandy enjoyed many happy years as members of Dana Point Yacht Club and cruising the coast of California and Catalina Island on their sailboat. His "retirement job" working at Ganahl Lumber in Capo Beach kept him active and he loved assisting with the sailboat races for DPYC. George will always be remembered for his love of family, sense of humor and sense of community service and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife, Sandy; sons, Jeffrey (Kathleen), Joel (Susan); daughters, Jeanette Fagelson (Jim), Jennifer Elekes (Jerry); eight grandchildren, Jacqueline, Julia, Cortney, Zachary, Haley, Megan, Courtney, Nathan; sister-in-law, Karen Smith; niece, Heather Smith; and great nephew, Anthony Slater. A celebration of George's life will be held on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at 1:00 PM at the home of Jim and Jeanette Fagelson, 225 S. Remington Court, Anaheim Hills, CA 92807. A burial at sea will take place at a later date.
