Just over one year ago I had the profound honor of interviewing Mel for a story on Station 29. He humbly showed off the plaques, letters of commendation, photographs and Helen's needle points hanging in their home. Then, outside we went where he talked of his home and how it had changed over the course of 60 years. It was a short encounter but one I will remember forever. My thoughts are with Mel's family during this time. May his memory be eternal.
