Allen Arthur Obituary

Allen Edgar Arthur, 90, passed away peacefully in the presence of family on Sunday, May 15. Born on April 9, 1932, in the same hospital where he died, Allen spent his entire life in Central Florida. Known to close friends and family as Bubba, Allen graduated from Orlando High School, attended the University of Florida where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order, and graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture. After graduation, Allen served as a First Lieutenant in the Army Corps of Engineers and was stationed in Germany. Upon completion of his service, Allen returned to Orlando to establish his architecture practice. Allen's greatest joy undeniably came from helping others-his country, his community, his clients, his church, and most importantly, his family. There were countless, unnoticed acts of kindness where he provided comfort and compassion to those in need. A true public servant, Allen was elected to two terms on the Orange County Commission and was elected to the Orange County Soil And Water Conservation Board. He was also appointed to serve on numerous boards including the Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority, the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, the Florida State Fair Authority, the Central Florida Fair Authority, the Central Florida Research Park, the Orange County Soil and Water Conservation Board. the Northwest Orange County Improvement Association, and the Christian Service Center, to name just a few. He was a former member of the Orlando Jaycees and the Orlando Old-Timers Club. A faithful Christian, Allen was an active member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church where he served several terms on the Vestry, was a Lay Eucharistic Minister and a Subdeacon. Allen loved being an architect and continued practicing until right before his last breath. His greatest oeuvre was his family to whom he was wholly devoted. Allen never missed a single opportunity to spend time with his wife, two daughters and grandchildren. Bubba was their greatest cheerleader, coach, chauffeur, taster, mentor, travel companion and friend. Allen is preceded in death by his parents, Allen Edgar Arthur, Sr. and Iris O'Kelly Arthur of Orlando, FL, and grandson, Charlie Carl, of Tampa, FL. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Marci, of Sarasota; daughters Meggen Wilson (Brian) of Winter Park, FL, and Ashley Thomas (Robert) of Tampa, FL; and four adoring granddaughters, Meg Wilson of Providence, RI; Elizabeth Larson (Michael) of Renton, WA; Kimmons Wilson of Seattle, WA; Charlotte Carl of Tampa, FL; his sister, Iris Supcoe of Clayton, N.C.; nieces, Olivia Supcoe of Fuquay-Varina, NC; Caitlyn Supcoe Thomas of Pittsburgh, PA; and nephew, Allen Supcoe of Mosheim, TN. For those lucky enough to have known, or even better to have been loved by, Bubba, there was no greater blessing. The world, and now the heavens, are a better place because of him. A memorial service will be held at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 2499 North Westmoreland Drive, Orlando, FL 32804, on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to St. Michael's Episcopal Church for the Community Center of Finca 6.

Mr. Arthur, as our family calls him, was a neighborhood blessing. He always took time out of his daily walks to speak to the kids who were playing in the front yard. He shared his faith and joy and stories of playing soccer in Germany to improve international relations while he was stationed there. Just last summer, when he learned that Adam loves architecture, Allen invited him to ride along and check out some of his projects. He was the epitome of a gentle man and Christian. He will be missed.

Allen was a key part of the development and success of the Central Florida Research Park which today is home to more than 10,000 employees. As an Orange County Commissioner, Allen signed the ordinance that created the Central Florida Research Park in 1979. Later as Chairman of the Orange County Research and Development Authority, Allen guided the growth of the research park during challenging times. Allen was the most decent, kind and honorable elected official that I have ever known. Most of all, he was the wonderful person that so many have described.
