Edna Noack Obituary

Edna E. Noack, 93, of Shepherd, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2006, at the Kings Daughters & Sons Nursing Home in Midland.

Edna E. Noack was born Oct. 24, 1912, in Shepherd, to George Thorne and Cora Edith (Cohoon) McGarry. She was a life resident of Shepherd. Her family, the Lydick Cohoon family, was one of the first families to settle in Shepherd. Lydicks son, Benjamin Cohoon, fought in the Civil War. Benjamin was the father of Edna's mother, Cora. Edna married Carl Noack, Aug. 16, 1947, in Mount Pleasant. He preceded her in death on Oct. 9, 1999. She received her teaching certificate from the now Central Michigan University and taught in several country schools in the Shepherd area. She retired from the Shepherd Public Schools after teaching in the elementary school. During World War II she taught soldiers to read and write and also was an inspector for airplane props during the war. She was a member of the Mount Pleasant Church of Christ.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary M. (William E.) Dennis of Midland, and Kathleen K. (Raymond G.) Fischer of Broomfield Hills; seven grandchildren, Deborah L. Dennis, Kathryn A. Joffre, Jon M. Dennis, Jill S. Dennis, Kristin J. Wager, Suzanne M. Rizzo and Diane L. Trippett; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl; a brother, Robert D. McGarry; and a sister, Christine L. Warrenton.

Private services will be held at a later date with interment in Salt River Cemetery in Shepherd. Arrangements were handled by The Berry Funeral Home.
