Sally Williams Obituary

Sally McBride Williams
Sally McBride Williams passed away peacefully June 15, 2023 with her daughters at her bedside. She was 94 years old.
Sally was born in Grosse Pointe, MI, the only child of Dr. Walter C. and Edith E. McBride. She graduated from Grosse Pointe High School in 1947 and earned her B.S. in Dental Hygiene at the University of Michigan in 1951, following her father into the dental profession. She was a proud member of Collegiate Sorosis sorority. Sally made many friendships in high school and college that lasted for decades.
After graduating from college, Sally worked in Grosse Pointe for a children's dentist until she married Dr. Edward C. Williams July 27, 1957 and moved to Midland, MI. Sally was active in the dental community, serving as president of the Michigan Dental Hygienists' Association, and was a life member of the Michigan Dental Hygienists Association and the Midland Dental Hygienists Society.
She was co-founder and served as the first president of the Women's Auxiliary to the Midland County Dental Society. Prior to moving to Midland she was a member of the Detroit District Dental Hygienists Society.
Sally was a weekly volunteer and past president of the Service Guild at MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland where she assisted families with loved ones in the hospital. After moving to Naples, FL she continued volunteering with the Naples Community Hospital Auxiliary.
An expert knitter, Sally knitted thousands of hats and booties for newborn babies at MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland and in Naples. She was able to complete one last set, in anticipation of the arrival of her first great-grandchild. She also knit beautiful sweaters, afghans, scarves, and mittens for her children and grandchildren.
Sally was athletic and an accomplished golfer. She was a long-time member of Midland Country Club, Royal Wood Women's Golf Association (Naples, FL), and Indian River (MI) Golf Club. She also enjoyed tennis and skiing for many years. She was a 50+ year member of Midland Memorial Presbyterian Church.
One of her favorite activities was attending or watching the University of Michigan (Go Blue!) football games. Sally and Ed held season tickets until their 80s. She was fond of Words with Friends, playing cards, tending her flower gardens, and her idyllic life at their Burt Lake cottage. They particularly enjoyed their 5:00 cocktail hour on their deck with countless family and friends enjoying beautiful Burt Lake.
Sally and Ed celebrated almost 66 years of marriage. After his retirement in 1999, they moved and split their time between their condo at Royal Wood Golf & Country Club in Naples and their cottage.
Sally is survived by her husband Ed, daughters Sue (Denis) Coates of Battle Ground, WA; Cindy (Brian) Tennant of Marquette, MI; Ann (Kevin) Corbin of Ann Arbor, MI; and Wendy Williams (Dave Hoppe) of Indian River, MI. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Stephanie, Kevin, and Samantha Coates; Katie (Tim) Tennant-Beenen and Andrew Tennant; Christopher and Steven Corbin; and Zachary Clement.
Sally will be deeply missed by her family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 am, Sat., August 19, 2023 at Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home in Midland. Contributions can be made in her name to the Burt Lake Preservation Association https://www.blpa.org where she cherished many of her fondest memories.
