POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - Darlene Marie (Harris, Luther) Sommers, recently of Poughkeepsie, NY, passed away on May 9, 2024 after a brief struggle with cancer. Darlene was born on June 17, 1940 to Emory Joseph Harris and Mae (Long) Harris in Minneapolis, MN.
After graduating from North High School in Minneapolis, she studied art at University of Minnesota.
Darlene married Marvin Leroy Luther in 1959. They had four children: Mark, Matt, Joan and Jean (as well as numerous foster children). Darlene and Marvin divorced in 1987.
Darlene worked at PJS Publications in several roles, ending her tenure there as an Art Director in 1999.
Darlene married Charles Sommers in August of 1997. Later, they retired and spent many happy years gardening, woodworking, and crafting together.
Darlene volunteered with David Davis Mansion and the Second Presbyterian Church while also serving many roles in clubs and groups including History Club, book clubs, garden clubs, and As You Like It.
Darlene was an artist in everything she pursued: her gardens looked like paintings. She often painted birds, flowers, and lively landscapes.
Darlene was predeceased by her sister, Betty Carson, as well as by first husband, Marvin, her second husband, Charles and his daughter, Deb. She is survived by her younger sister, Gloria; as well as Mark and June Luther, Joan Luther, Matt Luther, Jean (Luther) Russell; as well as Brad and Sherri Sommers, Kathy and Dave Marx, and Bruce Berhendts. Surviving grandchildren and great-grandchildren include: Grant and Molly Luther and their children: Ryker and Kinsey, Rosemarie Luther, Jordan Nottoli, Jenelle Nottoli, Emory Russell, Zo Russell, Laura Berendts, Mallory and Ben Sommers and their children, Carrissa Marx and Dalton Marx.
Family and friends to gather at Second Presbyterian in Bloomington, IL on August 17, 2024. Visitation at 10:00 a.m. and Service at 11:00 a.m.

I´m so sorry to hear about Darlene´s passing. I worked with her for many years and she was wonderful to work with. We had many laughs and a great time making all the deadlines. She was funny, talented and gifted. Always made you feel welcomed. I have very fond memories of her. Prayers going out to all the family.
