1935-2016
Quentin Charles Blake, 81 of Pasadena, died peacefully Tuesday (October 4, 2016) at home surrounded by his family. He was born March 8, 1935 in Stacyville, Iowa. He attended Visitation School in Stacyville and went on to college at Creighton University and ultimately graduated from University of Nebraska at Omaha with a bachelor's degree in secondary education and graduate work in Speech. After teaching for about ten years in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he moved to Pasadena, Texas. He was a salesman for three years before teaching himself the printing industry. He and his wife ran a very successful printing company ABLE PRINTING COMPANY for thirty-five years before retirement.
Retirement allowed Quentin the time to be more involved in his passions for church, gardening, and creative hobbies. He was very gifted in both woodworking and painting. He devoted many hours making incredibly detailed and unique birdhouses that were enjoyed by so many. His paintings are hanging throughout his home where his gift proves to be all the more evident. Each painting is an expression of how he saw the world. Somehow, he managed to capture every little beauty he saw in his work. Quentin's poetry was a further expression of his art, which was seen in his reminiscences of his childhood and memories of his family. He grew delicious vegetables and the most beautiful roses in his garden in his backyard. He took pride in his garden and made sure nobody would leave without a sack full of vegetables. Finally, he touched numerous lives with his talents and kind heart. No matter what occurred in life, Quentin never failed to be thankful to God for his gifts, his friends, and his family. If he wasn't speaking of his love and thanks when he taught religious education, he was singing his praise at Mass while leading the congregation in song. His ministries also included the food pantry, parish festivals, and money counting.
Quentin's legacy lives on through his family, and each life he has touched which can best be summed up in this quote:
"A Father's legacy is not in riches, possessions or worldly goods of any kind; it is in the way he lived, the lives he touched, the promises he kept. It is the kind of man he was."

Condolences to the entire Blake family. Mr. Blake was indeed a blessed man to have had such an impact on many. I can still remember playing basketball in the driveway of the Blake's home as a teenager which enabled Jim to become the player he was. Having recently had my own father pass I know the void that leaves so my desire is for God to sustain and encourage all of you to continue the great legacy of that your Dad, Grandfather,Uncle and friend began many years ago. God bless each and everyone during these days.

Thank you for being a great dad to me when my own father passed away. Someone to talk to about farming and farm life, both now and back in your younger days in Iowa. I will always cherish the memories of having you out to the farm to fish and just enjoy the outdoors. Thank you all the support and love you've given my family.
Until we are together again, watch over us with my parents, and may God bless you and Mary pray for you. Love, David.
