John Loeffler Obituary

John "Jack" George Loeffler M.D. passed on Friday, January 13 peacefully in his home after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. He and his wife Josephine (Jody) had just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
Jack was born on July 21, 1925 to the late John and Esther Loeffler of Union City, NJ. Jody and Jack met at Westfield NJ high school and were sweethearts since 9th grade. In 1943, Jack was recruited by the US Navy to enter the V12 program which was charged to generate more than 50 thousand new doctors for the raging world war. After undergraduate school at Drew and Princeton Universities, he attended New York Medical College. He was sent to Guam for 2 years during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning from Guam, Jack did his pediatric training at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). After completing his Chief Residency at CHOP, he moved to Carlisle to establish the first pediatric practice in Cumberland County, joined the next year by his long-time partner the late Dr. David Thompson. Their group was credited for introducing modern pediatric care to the community. After retirement from Carlisle Pediatrics Associates, Jack joined the US Army War College as a consultant until his retirement. Jack was the President of the Carlisle Hospital Medical Staff for several years and a loyal member of the Rotary Club and the Carlisle Country Club. He was a champion golfer as well as an all-state high school baseball player.
In addition to his devoted wife Jody, he leaves son John and his wife Debbie and grandchildren Lucas and Kylie of NYC; son Jay and his wife Nancy Tarbell, both physicians in Boston and their children Steven and Avery of NYC; and daughter Jan Bergen and her husband Tom of Lancaster and children Lauren Pryor and Alison Fackelmayer of Virginia and NYC, respectively. In addition he is survived by two great grandchildren, Emma and Anderson Pryor.
A Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held at Second Presbyterian Church of Carlisle, 528 Garland Dr, Carlisle, PA 17013, on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 11:00 am, with Rev. Dr. Jeffrey W. Gibelius and Rev. Jennifer J. McKenna officiating. Interment will be private at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, with full naval recognition of his service to the US Military as an officer.
