Anita Spurlock

1916-2016

Anita Stuart Miller Spurlock was born on July 31, 1916, in Bolivar, Louisiana, to parents Stuart and Bertha Miller. She went to her heavenly home on Saturday, March 12, 2016. In her 99 years on earth, Anita gave complete devotion to her family, friends, and community. She lived in Shreveport and Kenner, Louisiana, before moving to Milton in 1955, with her husband Emmett Martin Spurlock, where they raised their four children. In 1971 Anita and Emmett moved to Pennsylvania with Air Products, retiring back to Milton in 1981.

Anita attended Sophie Newcomb College of Tulane University. Her family and community activities in Milton earned her the distinctive award "Florida Mother of the Year" in 1969. She was an active member for over 50 years in the Milton Shakespeare Club, The Milton Garden Club, Historical Society, and a host of other activities and programs.

Anita's love for travel took her around the world, Europe being her favorite. She enjoyed going to the mountains to witness the beautiful colored leaves. Another passion was doll collecting, for herself and her granddaughters. Grandmother was quick to sew a costume or pull out her china cups for an impromptu tea party. Everyone loved her cooking and she enjoyed sharing her delicious dishes.

Anita will be missed by those left to cherish her memory. She is survived by two children, Sylvia Spurlock, Noel (Kay) Spurlock, daughter-in-law, Kathy Spurlock; her four grandchildren, Maureen (DuWayne) Hoffert, Heather (Mike) Spurlock, Martin Spurlock, Amy (Kent) DeLay; three great-grandchildren, Lauren (Matt) Cloer, Sarah (Joe) Pace, and Ellee DeLay; five great-great-grandchildren; sister, Jerelyn Witter; numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members; a special friend, Barbara Payne; and countless more.

Anita is now rejoicing in a heavenly reunion with her loved ones whose deaths preceded hers, including her beloved husband, Martin; and sons, John and Stuart.

Gratitude and appreciation goes to Dr. John Lee and Emerald Coast Hospice for their compassionate care and support.

The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel, with a Celebration of Life Memorial Service to begin at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions for Anita Spurlock may be made to Emerald Coast Hospice or a charity of your choice.

To The Family,

We only learned of Cousin Anita passing late last night(March 22nd). Our heartfelt sympathies and condolences to one and all. What an outstanding and accomplished Christian. Her Blessed take-charge attitude and strength of character was a beacon for others to follow. The World was a better place for having her
presence in it. Though she will be sorely missed by those she leaves behind, oh the eternal joy that is her's this very day in Heaven!

Mrs. Spurlock was one of the sweetest people I ever met. John was a clalssmate at Milton High School. Mrs. Spurlock welcomed all of us into her home and treated us as part of her family. We all loved her.
I am sure she touched many, many others during her lifetime.
