Jerome Stehlik Obituary

Jerome Thomas (Tom) Stehlik

1942--2011

Jerome Thomas Stehlik (Tom) passed away peacefully on June 3, 2011 in Pensacola Florida. Born in Chicago, Illinois on January 29th, 1942, Tom married his love of 41 years, Nancy Anne Simons, before moving to Peshtigo, Wisconsin to raise a family. Tom was a gifted entrepreneur and business man who began and operated two successful restaurants, The Spot and The Dome Cabaret for nearly 23 years. Tom lived by his motto "you work hard and play hard", which allowed him to retire at the age of 50. Upon retirement, Tom and Nancy enjoyed life by spending time in Wisconsin on his boat "The Beezy", traveling across the country to visit friends, and being "snow birds" in Gulf Shores until 1999 when he and Nancy settled in Pensacola. Throughout his life, Tom remained active in many civic organizations such as the Am Vets, American Legion, Moose Lodge, and Elks.

Tom was a loving father, whose pride were his two sons, Michael (Leigh) and Jim (Kelly) who he cherished spending time with on fishing trips to Mexico, Chicago Cubs games, the Indianapolis 500, the Kentucky Derby, Notre Dame and Florida State Bowl games, or just talking business. "Papa" had a special place in his heart for his five grandchildren, Abby, Kaitlyn, Thomas, Cecelia, and Andrew, with whom he shared his love of fishing and a deep respect for nature and animals.

Tom enjoyed playing all types of card games, particularly cribbage, and began a grass roots cribbage club in Pensacola where he truly enjoyed playing with his friends each week.

A memorial service will be held at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, 619 New Warrington Road, Pensacola Florida, 32506 at 6:30 pm, with visitation from 5:00pm - 7:00pm on Tuesday, June 7th. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at www.pancan.org.

I still fondly think of Tom often and what he did and meant to me. My memories may not be as vast as those who knew him longer, but Tom had a way of making you feel close to him on some level regardless of how long you knew him. His charisma was infectious and you felt good being around him and I still feel good for having known him. My love and affection to the Stehlik family as we remember Tom...

Dear Nancy, Jim, Mike, and the whole family,
We've been friends now for such a long time. We particularly enjoyed getting together at each others houses for home made meals. and of course the girls had their shopping excursions, and the boys cribbage matches were legendary. Our guess is that one of Tom's happiest achievements was getting that cribbage league going at the Legion and the AmVets. It was much appreciated by so many players. We will miss Tom so very much.

My Dear Nancy, Micheal, and Jim, and all family, I am so sorry for the loss of a truely great man. I look back at time, and the days i spent with all of you still remain to be the best part of my life. To this day i search and miss the days at the Dome and the Spot. Tom was very special to me as all of you are, and the memories that were shared truely come up on a daily basis. How can i express my gratitude and sympathy, but to say that Tom was simply one of a kind and his effect he blessed on my life in the past 31 years will be carried with me with pride and sincere admiration.

To the Stehlik Family. My prayers are with you. I hope you feel blessed to have had a good man like Tom to lead your family for all these years. I didn't know anyone who was more proud of his wife and sons. I loved the part in his obituary; you work hard and you play hard. I had a lot of good times with your family, and I was proud that Tom called me his buddy. I'll miss him. Godspeed, The Family of Chris Lemke.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.
