Carolyn Kidd

Betty Carolyn Hedgepeth Kidd, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on February 5, 2021. She was born in Portsmouth, Virginia, where she lived her entire life. Carolyn was married to her high school sweetheart, Wiley M. Kidd, Sr. for 64 years. She was the daughter of the late Albert Anderson Hedgepeth and Virginia Leitner Hedgepeth, and predeceased by her sister, Janet Hedgepeth Burnside.

Carolyn graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, attended Westhampton College, and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was a member of Westhaven Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, sang in the Chancel Choir, and was active in the Ellen Douglas Oliver Circle. Carolyn was a talented musician and taught piano for over 40 years. She was an accomplished seamstress designing, sewing, and altering clothing for her family, and stitching beautiful quilts and hand embroidery. Carolyn was an avid reader. She researched and planned family vacations and traveled extensively both internationally and within the United States. Carolyn graciously hosted family gatherings, birthdays, and holiday celebrations leaving us with many cherished memories. She was a loving caregiver for her grandmother, mother, sister, aunt, uncle, nieces, nephew, and grandson. Carolyn will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

She leaves her devoted children, Wiley Kidd, Jr. of New York, NY, Sherry Kidd, husband Scott Lyons, and beloved grandson William Kidd Lyons of Durham, PA. "The song is ended, but the melody lingers on . . ." - Irving Berlin

A memorial service celebrating Carolyn's life will be held at a future date.
