Connie Edwards SMITHFIELD - Connie Jacquelyn Acord Edwards of Smithfield, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011 with her family by her side. She was 68. Mrs. Edwards was born Nov. 16, 1942, the daughter of the late Victoria Acord Wagner and the granddaughter of the late Wilbur and Clara Belle Prescott. She was a retired lab technician, having worked for Gwaltney of Smithfield and Smithfield Foods for 34 years. Mrs. Edwards was a member of Benn's United Methodist Church, where she was a choir member for many years and served on several church committees. But her favored occupation was the care of her children and 10 grandchildren. Mrs. Edwards is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, Philip Fleetwood Edwards Jr.; son, Philip Fleetwood Edwards III and wife Heather of Smithfield; two daughters, Victoria Lynn Edwards Shea and husband Kevin of Hamilton, and Jacqueline Elizabeth Edwards Myers and husband Gene of Chattanooga, Tenn.; a sister, Virginia Peggy Lowe and husband Jimmy of Richlands; a brother, Jimmy Wayne Wagner and wife Lynda of Virginia Beach; and 10 grandchildren, Alanna, Kevin and Brendan Shea, Jessica, Gene and Jordan Myers, and Tyler, Alec, Hunter and Abigail Edwards. A visitation will be held at Colonial Funeral Home today, Jan. 22, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. A graveside service will be held Sunday, Jan. 23, at 2 p.m. in the historic section of St. Luke's Cemetery with a reception to follow at Benn's United Methodist Church. The family suggests memorial donations to the Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 97, Smithfield, VA 23431. Arrangements are in the care of Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield.
