Joseph E. Alexander

Virginia Beach - Joseph E. Alexander of Virginia Beach passed away November 6, 2014 at Princess Anne Hospital. Joseph was born October 31, 1936 to the late Clifford and Ruth Alexander. Joseph proudly served his country in the United States Navy and National Guard. He also gave 32 additional years to the Civil Service, where he retired and was the recipient of several Distinguished Civil Service Awards highlighted by the Meritorious Civilian Service Award. Joseph was also a Plank Owner of the Naval Aviation Logistics Center, Detachment East.

Joseph leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Dorothy of 54 years; his children, James R. Alexander, Nancy A. (Eron) Foster, and Bonnie J. (Michael) Purefoy; 5 grandchildren: Jessica Cook, Amber Foster-Hobart, Lauren Swaim, Morgan and Heather Purefoy; and 7 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Monday, November 10th at 11 am at Colonial Grove Memorial Park, 3445 Princess Anne Rd., Virginia Beach. A reception will follow at Nimmo United Methodist Church, 2200 Princess Anne Rd, Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VBSPCA, 3040 Holland Rd. VB, 23453. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.altmeyer.com.

Bonnie, The Powell Family is so very sorry for your loss. For me personally I really enjoyed knowing your father, he was one of a kind. Sorry we could not see you last week it was a little hectic at work. Hope to see you and your family during the holidays.
