Joy Crowley Obituary

Joy M. Crowley

Virginia Beach - Joy Mills Crowley, 75, passed away peacefully, with her husband by her side, on February 17, 2016. She was born April 2, 1940 in Miami Beach, Florida and from that day forward brightened the lives of all who were fortunate enough to have met her. Joy graduated from Coral Gables High School and attended Mary Washington College. She was a dedicated Navy wife, Red Cross Volunteer and loving mother.

Joy became a very successful real estate agent for Goodman Segar Hogan Residential Real Estate in the 80's and 90's. She was a member of their Million Dollar Sales Club, Hogan's Heros and was recognized in the top 1% of agents Nationwide. Joy excelled at golf and had competed in and organized many golf tournaments in the late 70's. She was the president of the Woman's Golf Association at NAS Barbers Point in Oahu, Hawaii.

Joy possessed a great sense of humor, sharp wit and candid opinion. Her uncanny knack for delivery and comic timing could have earned her a starring role on a television sitcom. There was always so much laughter in her presence. Joy was also an avid reader and enjoyed completing crossword puzzles..in pen.

In 2002 she was diagnosed with breast cancer and beat it. Joy was a strong woman and a true survivor.

She was predeceased by her parents, Robert Gordon Mills and Ruth Harrison Mills; two brothers, Robert Mills and Harrison Mills. And her cherished Aunt and Uncle, Helen and Rod Harrison.

Joy is survived by her husband of 45 years, retired U.S. Navy Commander William 'Bill' Crowley; three children Diana Crowley Glasier, Joanna Crowley Westbrook, and her husband Mark; Greg Crowley, and his wife Megan. Three grandchildren, Harrison Overcash, Justin Glasier and Miranda Westbrook. She is also survived by her brother, Dr. Peter Mills and his wife Karen. Her sister in laws, Barbara Crowley Frank, Kay Gragnano, and her husband Edward, brother in laws Dennis Crowley and his wife Sharon, Thomas Crowley and his wife, Virginia. And by her SPCA cat, Mia.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, February 21, 2016 at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, 1485 Kempsvillle Road, Virginia Beach.

A burial ceremony is planned for later this summer in Spring Lake, New Jersey where the family spent many of their vacations and the home of the annual Crowley Invitational Golf Tournament.

Joy... your name says it all. You will be greatly missed. Rest in peace.

Bill & Family,

Joy was absolutely remarkable. She was dedicated to many things in 75 years. It was her passion deep down in her heart. I never had the opportunity to meet Joy in person, we just talked on the phone several times. Bill done it all for his Joy each and every day with a smile, it's called unconditional love. Joy is at Peace with God now and look down at you Bill saying well done my love, we shall meet again.
