GLASFORD - Charles E. "Sonny" Gerdes, 83, of Glasford passed away at 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at his residence.
He was born on May 21, 1930, in Mapleton to Louis and Elizabeth Triloff Gerdes. They preceded him in death. He married Eleanor Deppermann on March 10, 1951, in Glasford. She survives.
Also surviving are two children, Mary Kay (Ronald) Kreiter of Tullahoma, Tenn., and Doug (Tammy) Gerdes of Franklin, Ill.; six grandchildren, Colt, Caleb, Anley Gerdes, Jennifer (Brad) Sullivan, Jeff (Liz) Kreiter and Janelle (James) Rotach; and five great-grandchildren, Jacie, Mason, Emily, Alexis and Carter.
He was also preceded in death by one sister, Bernice (Leroy) Buhl.
Sonny worked as a farmer in the Glasford area and also worked for Keystone Steel & Wire Co., retiring in 1992 after 38 years of service.
He attended White Chapel United Methodist Church in rural Glasford and enjoyed deer hunting with his grandsons and farm auctions. Most of all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and loved his dog Herbie.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, at the White Chapel United Methodist Church in rural Glasford, with a visitation one hour prior. Burial will be held in the Lancaster Cemetery.
Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the church or to TAPS in Pekin.
