James Michels Obituary

James "Jim" Michels
EUREKA - James "Jim" Michels of Eureka peacefully surrendered to his three-month battle with cancer, on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at the age of 64. He was surrounded by family and flourished with love and support throughout his fight.
Jim was the son to the late George and Helen Michels, formerly of Henry, IL.
Surviving him are his dearly loved children, Anthony and Amanda Michels; grandchildren, Deshaun and Evelynn; his ever-loving ex-wife, Jo Ann Michels; brothers, Keith of Tampa, FL, Lance of St. Croix, USVI, and Michael of Minonk, IL; nieces, Courtney and Krystal; and nephews, Derek and Bradley.
Jim lived his life as a free spirit and enjoyed many things. He was a Harley rider, a member of the Rocky Mountain Gunslingers, a Wild Bill Hickcock reenactor and an avid karaoke singer. Jim spent many years in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado before taking his journey to the sandy beaches of Florida; he was born to roam without cages.
As part of Jim's dying wishes, his body was donated to science for research, training and educational purposes.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Henry, IL, pending his Legacy Letter from Science Care outlining the research programs that were taking place at the time of his donation.
