Peggy Hood Obituary

BUSHNELL - Peggy E. Hood, age 70, of Bushnell, Ill., passed away at 10:47 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at her home.

Peggy was born at St. Francis Hospital in Peoria, Ill., on Dec. 30, 1942. She was raised by her grandparents, Bryan and Zephyr Bartlett in Bushnell, where she graduated from Bushnell Prairie City High School in 1960.

She married Larry L. Hood on June 4, 1960, at the Methodist Church in Bushnell. He survives.

She also is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Anne Hood of Bushnell; a sister, Karen De Simone, and a brother, LeRoy Flewellen, both of Mesa, Ariz.; and six nieces and nephews.

Peggy worked as a secretary and office manager for a number of research and scientific businesses in the various states where she and Larry lived over the years.

She was a very talented quilter, a skill she learned from her grandmother. In 1972, while living in Columbia, Md., she founded The Faithful Circle Quilters and in 1978, after moving to Anchorage, Alaska, she founded The Log Cabin Quilters. Both of these groups are still going strong today with many dedicated members. Also while living in Anchorage, she started her own quilting store.

After returning to Bushnell in 1993, she was on the board of directors of the Bushnell Public Library and the board of directors of the Arts Foundation, president of the Bushnell Historical Society, and co-chair of the 2004 Bushnell Sesquicentennial Celebration.

She was a member and past president of Chapter X of the PEO Sisterhood of Bushnell and a member of the Bushnell Women's Club.

In addition to being an avid quilter, Peggy also enjoyed rug hooking, needlepoint, counted crossstitch, knitting and crocheting. She did both water color and oil painting, scrap booking, journaling, photo-graphy and enjoyed gardening and cooking.

She loved traveling with Larry and made many trips to European countries, Egypt, Jordan and Thailand. They also did many canal boat and small boat cruises in Europe, the Caribbean and the South Pacific.

Peggy was extremely interested in archaeology and participated on digs in the U.S., England and Ireland. Her visits to the pyramids, Petra and Pompeii were high points of her life.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of her life will be at 10:30 a.m. March 2, 2013, at the Presbyterian Church in Bushnell. Martin-Hollis Funeral Home in Bushnell, Ill., is in charge of arrangements.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to the wonderful women of McDonough District Hospital Hospice for their professional and loving care of Peggy in the final days of her life.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to MDH Hospice in Macomb, Ill.

Dear Larry,
We are so sorry to learn of Peggy's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. She always made me (Lana) feel a part of the Bushnell "gang" and was such a gracious hostess. We will miss seeing her on our reunion visits.
