Betty L. Ward, age 80 of Merrillville, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2009. She is survived by her husband, Robert; 3 children, Roberta (Scott) Gast of Eau Claire, MI, Michael (Debi) Ward of Mears, MI and Robert H. Ward of Merrillville, IN; cousins, Beverly Guiden of Schererville, IN, Maxine Scurtu of DeMotte, IN, Lester Detterline of Florida, Vera Kalberer of Hobart, IN and Peggy Malinoff of Hobart, IN; Trinadad the cat and many other loving animals and many loving friends. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Florence Detterline. Private graveside services were held at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary. There will be a memorial service Saturday, September 19, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Heritage Baptist Church, 9903 Merrillville Road, Crown Point, with Rev. Ron Peterson officiating. Geisen Funeral Home, 7905 Broadway, Merrillville in charge of arrangements. Betty was a member of Heritage Baptist Church and attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL. She loved singing and listening to gospel music. Betty volunteered at her church and the Rescue Mission in Gary. She also enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends. In Betty's memory, flowers may be sent to Heritage Baptist Church for the service on Saturday or memorial donations may be made in Betty's name to the church. I wish to express my deepest sympathy to Bob, Roberta, Mike, and Robert. Your wife and mother were so kind and loving to me and our family. All of you are still in my thoughts and memories.
