Larry Price Obituary

ODESSA Larry Leon Price Sr. passed away Monday, March 2, 2009, at Medical Center Hospital after a long battle with COPD and heart disease.

He was 61 years old.

Larry Sr. was born in Cullman, Ala., on Sept. 15, 1947.

The family moved to Odessa in 1949, where he lived most of his life except for his time in the United States Air Force.
He graduated from Odessa High School in 1966 and joined the Air Force. He married June Hollowell and had one son, Larry Jr. While in the Air Force, he was stationed in Little Rock, Ark., and did a tour in Vietnam. Larry completed in service to our country in 1973 and had been stationed at Dyess AFB in Abilene, Texas. He reached the rank of Staff Sergeant during this time. After returning from his time in the service, Larry moved back to Odessa to raise his son with the help of his mom and dad. Larry Sr. worked in the finance business, as a route salesman for a uniform company and as a salesman for a fence company. Larry then began a job he loved as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. In 1977, he married Katie Goddard, and she brought two wonderful daughters into his life, Denise and Melissa Thompson. Larry's love of family and children lead him to his current loving wife, Judy W. Black. They were married on Aug. 26, 1988, in Hobbs, N.M. Judy brought into his life a son, Anthony Wayne Horne, and a daughter, Twila Michelle Horne. He was also "Uncle Larry" to so many because of his love for kids and life.
Larry Sr. loved to spend time with family and friends, ride motorcycles, work on cars, fish and help people in any way he could. He was a member of the First Assembly of God in Odessa and later a member of the Dayspring Assembly of God, also in Odessa. As a member of Dayspring, he served on the Board of Deacons. Larry was a past president of the National Association of Letter Carriers local union chapter and stayed active in the union until he retired because of his illness in 2001.

He was preceded in death by his birth father, Allen Leon Price, when he was a very young man; his second Dad, B.J. Sims of Odessa; a brother, Joe Gary of Odessa; a sister, Marsh Lynn Sims of Louisiana; a grandson, Stevie Black of Odessa; nephew, Brandon Borchert; and great-niece, Casey Annette Price.

Larry is survived by his mother, Bernice Dene Price-Sims; wife, Judy Price of Odessa; father and mother-in-law, Wayne and Vonell Black; sons, Larry Leon Price Jr. of Houston and Tony Horne of Odessa; daughters, Denise Kathelene Brown-Weaver and husband William, Melissa Dawn Thompson and husband Mike Figert, and Twila Michelle Horne, all of Odessa; brother, John Lee Price and wife Joanne of Odessa; sisters, Janice Ann Price of Odessa, Mary Pat Sims of Baton Rouge; sister-in-law, Shirley Price; grandchildren, Scottie and Sean Black, Landon Shane, Colby Shawn and Garrett Michael Figert, all of Odessa; nieces and nephews, Teesha Kay Price and son Billie Allen, Joe Gary Price and wife Maria and their children, Chris Price, Wayne Borchert and many others that he adopted as his own over the years.

Judy,
I am so sorry for your loss. All of you will be in my prayers for comfort and strength during this difficult time. Jennifer was very upset that she didn't find out in time to visit today with you and Twila. You all were on her mind all this week but she didn't have a phone # to call. That intuition is so true. I'm very sorry we missed it. We are in San Angelo now. All of us girls! I teach 1st gr. still and I was glad that Jennifer exchanged #'s with you and Twila. Again, we are so sorry and feel free to contact me anytime. 325-277-3543
