Lillie Chandler

Lillie Chandler, age 98 passed away Friday, January 20, 2017. Lillie graduated from Roosevelt High School Class of 1941. After graduating high school Lillie attended Gary Career College. She later became a beautician and the owner of her own salon, The Lillie Chandler Beauty Salon. Lillie was a member of the NAACP, the League of Women Voters and the International Training in Communication Association. She was a faithful member of First A.M.E. Church where she served proudly for many years as the president of the women's missionary society. Lillie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ben, sisters Channie Gayden, Leona Pointer, Eva Ennix and Helen Davis. She is survived by her nieces Arlene(Guy) Williams, Debra Yvonne Freeman, Helen Watkins, Patrice (Konota) Coleman; nephew Edward (Linda) Davis; godsons Dr. Arnold (Sharon)Turner and Tracy Brown Jr.; special friends/caregiver Coral (Charles) Lewis and a host of other nieces, nephews relatives and friends. Visitation Friday January 27, 2017 from 9-11:00 a.m. Funeral service immediately following at 11:00 a.m. all at First A.M.E. Church 2405 Massachusetts St. Interment Evergreen Cemetery.
