Evelyn A. Scanlon

Millbrook - Evelyn A Scanlon, 82, a resident of Millbrook, NY for 9 years and Valley Stream, NY for the preceding 46 years died on Mon. January 25, 2016 at her home at the Fountains of Millbrook. Born August 12 1933 in W Hempstead NY to the late Charles and Anna Gordon, married to the late Donald Scanlon on Nov 23, 1961 in Valley Stream, NY, a member of the Grace Methodist Church of Valley Stream during her life there. Evelyn is survived by her sons Michael of Snowmass Village, Co., Thomas, his wife Kathleen of N Reading, Ma and her daughter Kathleen, her husband Patrick of Poughkeepsie, NY. She is also survived by her grand-children Ryan, Daniel, Kerri, Patrick, Colleen and Erin.

Evelyn was a dedicated career RN and spent many years caring for others, she graduated the Brooklyn School of Nursing with further education from Syracuse University. She started working as a public health nurse in the Long Island area, later at the A Holly Paterson nursing home and finally as a school nurse with the Holy Name of Mary School in Valley Stream as well as in the Valley Stream School District #24 until she retired in the late 90's. Evelyn enjoyed traveling with her husband and family to the Lakes region of NH, Shelter Island, NY, and to the National Parks of the Western US and Alaska. In retirement she enjoyed her house on Lake Winnepesaukie as well as the mountains of NH with her husband Donald.

Services and visitation is at the Timothy Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave, Poughkeepsie, NY on Sat Jan 30 from 2 to 6. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Fountains of Millbrook for their extraordinary care during her stay there with her husband Donald. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the Alzheimer's Association on behalf of her late husband Donald.
