Poughkeepsie - On Thursday, July 6, 2018, Gary Anthony Thomas Jr., husband, father, son, and brother, passed away suddenly at the age of 47 years old, he will be greatly missed.
Gary was born on Wednesday, August 5, 1970 in Valhalla, New York to his parents, Gary Thomas Sr. and Connie Simon. He was raised by his great-grandparents Shirley Sands and Walter Sinkler and grandparents, Joan and Ormond Harris.
A native of Greenburgh, New York, Gary attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and Archbishop Stephinac High School. He received a football scholarship to play at Long Island University-C.W. Post while majoring in Communications. His football and college career later came to an end due to a knee injury. After coming home from school, he met Kelley Phillips and later married and had four children, Shamika, Malik, Kiamani, and Jhamiir and relocated to Poughkeepsie, New York. They then joined Beulah Baptist Church and became active members where Gary was later ordained as a deacon. He was an assistant for the transportation committee and assistant basketball coach and referee for Beulah.
Gary worked as a health consultant for 15 years before leaving and starting his own transportation business and becoming a part of World Ventures. He had a genuine heart and was always eager and passionate to help others. His selfless nature was inviting for others to share their stories with him.
Gary is survived by Kelley Thomas, his four beloved children, Shamika, Malik, Kiamani, Jhamiir; grandson, Jahkai Thomas Kimble; mother, Connie Simon; siblings, Matt Simon and Meredith Simon; grandfather, Ormond Harris and a host of cousins and other relatives and many friends.
Mr. Thomas will repose 10-11 a.m., Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Beulah Baptist Church, 92 Catharine Street, Poughkeepsie, NY. Service at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Rev. Jesse V. I'm still trying to digest this. I just found out and I understand when God say it's time, it's time. Nevertheless it is painful. U were our family and friend. There are no tomorrows and now ur tomorrow is peace in heaven. We will miss u, but u will always be in our hearts.

Rest In Peace, Gary. May the good Lord bless your soul and invite you into his loving arms. May the Lord also bless your family and give them strength in these most difficult of times. I've known Gary since High School but through social media we reconnected and its such a blessing that we did.

My prayers are with "ALL" of Gary's lovely family. Some things we will "NEVER" understand the reasons why they happen but in times like these we must trust in the Lord and lean not unto our own understanding. Sorrow may linger for the night, but joy comes with the morning. Anticipate the morning and feel in the night of sorrow that underlying Joy that tells of confident expectations of the morning. Look and keep looking. Doubt flees, Joy reigns, and Hope conquers. Family, "HOPE THOU IN GOD!" Always remember that GOD is concerned about "EVERYTHING" that concerns you. Praise GOD from whence "ALL" of our blessings flow! "BE STILL AND KNOW!"
