Leah Correa Obituary

Leah Correa

Red Hook - Leah Correa, 105, of Red Hook, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home on Tuesday, May 2, 2017.

Born on August 19, 1911, in Guardarraya de Patillas, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Juan Laboy and Mauricia Suarez.

In 1922, she, her mother, her grandmother and 3 siblings came to the United States and settled in New York City. There she met and married Roberto Correa, in 1934. He predeceased her in 1993.

Mom lived a full life. She was known as Mom, Aunt, Titi, Grandmother and Ita. She was a seamstress for many years. She studied for and received her High School Equivalency diploma at the age of 58, scoring the highest grade in her class. She went on to be a school aide until she retired in 1973. Mom's secret to her long life was her diet of Dr. Pepper and Hot Pockets along with her use of Dove and aloe.

She is survived by her daughter, Lorelle Ulfers of Red Hook; her daughter-in-law, Anitta Ruiz-Correa of the Bronx, NY; her grandchildren, Jennifer Soper of Red Hook, Heather Thomas of Marlboro, Audrey Williams of Oceanside, CA, Antoinette Correa of New York City, NY, and Roberto Correa II of Memphis, TN; her great-grandchildren, Zachary Soper, Benjamin Soper, Rebecca Soper; Franklin Williams Jr., Sean Williams, Michelle Williams, Michael Williams, Roberto Correa III, and Lillian Correa; her great-great grandchildren, Amaya Williams, Nichole Williams; along with nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son, Ralph Correa; her siblings, Juan Laboy Jr., Luisa Millan, and Elpidio Laboy; and her son-in-law, Bill Ulfers

Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Home on Sunday, May 7th, 2017 from 12 noon to 4 pm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 8th, 2017 at 11 am at St. Catherine Laboure, 200 Tuytenbridge Rd., Lake Katrine, NY. Interment will be private.
