Patricia Sexton Obituary

Patricia C. Sexton

Cold Spring - Patricia C. Sexton, age 69, of Cold Spring, NY, died peacefully on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at NY Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital in Cortlandt Manor. Patricia was born on March 20, 1947, in the Bronx, New York, the daughter of the James and Margaret (Conaty) Downes.

A graduate from Bellevue Nursing School, Pat chose a vocation which allowed her to demonstrate her intelligence, care, compassion and kindness in an unassuming manor. While working at Vassar Brothers Hospital (VBH), she advanced her degree to Critical Care Registered Nurse. Pat was instrumental in organizing the registered nurses at VBH to unite and join the New York State Nurses Association, in 1983.

A dedicated community advocate, Pat served as President of the school board for Haldane Central School District, was member of the Philipstown Planning board and an Associate member of the North Highland Engine Company #1. She held these positions with a sense of duty, integrity and honor.

Pat had a profound devotion to her family, friends, and community. Her presence touched the lives of all she encountered. Her insatiable appetite for knowledge and a love of learning established her role as a mentor and confidant.

Pat is survived by her husband Anthony, her daughter Kristina (Richard Rommel) Sexton, her son Keith (Jennie) Sexton all of Cold Spring; her brother James (Annette) Downes of Newtown, CT; her sister Margaret Downes of Trumbull, CT and her Aunt, Sister Catherine Conaty. Four grandchildren Thomas, Brian, William and Elizabeth also survive.

Friends may call at the Clinton Funeral Home, Corner of Parrott and Pine Sts. (21 Parrott St.) Cold Spring, NY 10516, on Sunday, June 12th from 3 to 6 PM. In Lieu of Flowers donations have been asked to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am, Monday, June 13, 2016 at St. Mary Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Avenue, Fishkill, NY 12524. A private cremation will follow in the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are in the care of the Clinton Funeral Home, Cold Spring.

I knew Pat for quite awhile and in time she became family to me. Pat's passing brings me such sorrow. We used to have the best of conversations and she was always so very helpful when I needed advice concerning my health in the past. Either way she was always there with warmth and love. As i am writing this my heart is filled with deep sorrow and pain . The only happy resolution is that Pat is with the lord. She is now her self with nothing to bind her from who she was before her accident, she is now whole once more. I love you and miss you so very much Pat and my heart is breaking as each day passes but that's okay because your in heaven with no worries, no pain . For that alone i find comfort in. My deepest condolences to Tony her husband her children Kristina and Keith and the whole family. You will always be remembered in my heart and prayers.

We will miss you forever! We will never forget the fun and laughter and the targets that we went through with you. May you get all the joy in heaven that you never got here and I know your mother Margie will be watching over you. Don't worry Pat me and Bill will look over your family like you did and we all felt your love deeply. Pete Sexton

Overcoming serious adversity for much of her life, Pat showed the rest of us who knew and loved her that we must live our lives regardless of the roadblocks thrown in our path. Working with her on the school board, town planning board, and numerous political elections, she never ceased to amaze me how tireless she was and encouraged those around her. She was fun to be with at parties and loved her Bailey's, and never let anyone's glass go dry - be it coffee or other.

Sometimes, there's someone that you have the privilege to spend time with in life, whose imprint on your soul will last a lifetime. For me, it was Aunt Pat. There is not a moment's memory that I will ever have of her, not being jubilant, joyous, loving and strong. I have admired her always and know that she is one of the bravest human beings that I will ever encounter. Her home was always the pinnacle of happiness and laughter. Her wisdom in everything and her fabulous story telling techniques, never failed to captivate everyone in a room. She was a blessing to her family as equally as she was blessed to have them, though. The Sexton's of Corey Lane are one Fantastic Family! God Blesss you Aunt Pat and may you finally have peace after this terribly long battle. Uncle Anthony, Krissy and Keith- I love you very much. I am so very sorry for your tremendous loss.
