Elizabeth Sternberg Obituary

ELIZABETH (BETTY) STERNBERG
of Town of Binghamton
Elizabeth (Betty) Sternberg, 95, went to be with her Lord on June 16, 2001. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry, in 1995 and son, Otto in 1996. Surviving her are her daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and John Merriam, Binghamton; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Virginia Sternberg, Hallstead, Pa.; daughter-in-law, Jane Sternberg, Binghamton; grandchildren, Brian and Lois Sternberg, Bainbridge, Mark and Kathy Sternberg, N.C., Diane Gresham, Windsor, Michael Smith, Johnson City, Danny and Liza Smith, Torrance, Calif., Erin Merriam, Binghamton, Ronald and Barbara Sternberg, Harpursville, Kimberley and David Brown, Binghamton; and six great grandchildren. Betty was born in South Hartwick, N.Y., but lived her adult life on Pierce Creek Road, where she was instrumental in forming the construction company she and her husband ran for many years. She was a charter member of the Pierce Creek Community Association where she served as treasurer. She was involved in many other civic organizations but her family was her number one priority, always encouraging them to do and be their best. In her later years she devoted much time to her Bible study and spiritual growth and has continued to be an inspiration to her family. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the DeMunn Funeral Home, 36 Conklin Ave., Binghamton, with Rev. Steve Edwards, officiating. Burial will be at Chenango Valley Cemetery following the service. The family will receive friends at the DeMunn Funeral Home on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
