Richard Robertson Obituary

Richard William Robertson Sr.

Trumansburg - Richard William Robertson Sr., age 78, of Trumansburg, NY passed away peacefully, with his beloved wife Judith at his side, on January 4, 2021. He was born on August 2, 1942 in Deposit, NY the son of the late William W. and Eva Baskerville Robertson. He married Judith Gifford on September 23, 1960. Richard was a most honorable man and provider in every sense of the word. He was a hero and role-model to his family, and a leader in industry and community. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a builder, building everything from cradles for his children, to baseball fields to corporate parks. Richard loved his family, baseball, fishing on Cayuga and Lamoka Lakes, and tending his 'gentleman's' farm and orchard in Trumansburg. He graduated from Delhi College and moved to the Ithaca area in 1962. In 1966, he and Judith moved to Seneca Road in Trumansburg where they raised their family and built their legacy. Richard spent his career in the construction industry as a project manager and ultimately co-owner of McGuire & Bennett, Inc. His leadership resulted in the eventual merger with Wellco Inc. creating a strong local company now operating as Welliver Mcguire Inc. Richard is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judith Ann Robertson; sister, Bonnie Franks; brother, Randy Robertson; six children: Scott (Susanne) Robertson of Buckley, WA, Richard Jr. (Susan) Robertson of Mecklenburg, NY, Joel (Kim) Robertson of Binghamton, NY, Amy (Thomas) Planty of Rock Stream, NY, Molly (John Cascini) Hill of Gorham, NY and John (Kristen) Robertson of Ithaca, NY; eighteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his father and mother in law William and Grace Gifford; and his sister in law, Catherine Johnson. Services will be held privately by the family at the Trumansburg First Baptist Church on January 11, 2021. A Celebration of Richard's life and scattering of ashes will be held at a later date at the family home. Donations may be made in Richard's honor to the organization of your choice.
