William R. Sibley
of Owego
Bill Sibley, 81, of Owego, passed away peacefully at home, Monday, April 14, 2003, after a short illness. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Anna Sibley; and his brother, Charlie. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Christopher Williams, Endicott, N.Y.; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Sibley and Kathleen, White Lake, Mich.; five grandchildren, Bridgette Cotterell, Apalachin, N.Y., Christopher Sibley, Washington, Mich, Travis Sibley, Redford, Mich, Erin Cotterell, Roselle, N.J., and Austin Sibley, White Lake, Mich; five great-grandchildren, Katie and Benjamin Cotterell, Alexa, Jacklyn and Cole Sibley. Bill was born in Johnson City, N.Y. He graduated from Owego Free Academy in 1940 and worked as a welder at Endicott-Johnson prior to enlisting in the US Army. He was a combat veteran of the 14th Armored Division during WWII. He retired from Lourdes Hospital after 29 years as a laundry manager. Bill subsequently ran his own industrial laundry equipment business for several years until finally retiring for good in 1995. He spent the rest of his life devoted to his family. Bill's ongoing celebration of life included his talents as a vocalist, pianist, guitarist and banjo picker. He was greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at 1 p.m. at Savage Funeral Home, 338-344 Conklin Ave., Binghamton, N.Y. 13903, with Rev. David C. Seaver, Chaplain of Spiritual Care at Lourdes Hospital, officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday, April 16, 2003. Burial will follow in the family plot at Vestal Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's memory to Lourdes Hospice, 169 Riverside Dr., Binghamton, N.Y. 13905.
