SWAN, Beverly Jean Dixon Of Santa Rosa, California passed away March 29th, 2017 at the age of 94. Born June 29, 1922 in Oakland, California to Ruth and Lincoln Dixon, Beverly grew up in Santa Rosa and attended Santa Rosa High School and Santa Rosa Junior College. Beverly's high school years were especially enjoyable to her; she established life-long friendships, served as an editor of Santa Rosa High School's newspaper and yearbook, and was valedictorian of her February 1940 graduating class. She was active in the Santa Rosa chapter of Jobs Daughters and served as Honored Queen. On October 29, 1943, Beverly married Robert Allen Swan, a Navy lieutenant stationed in Alameda, whom she met when they had both taken a day off to skate at the Berkeley Ice Skating Rink. They lived in many states during their time in the military but eventually settled in Oakland, California where they raised their family. They returned to Santa Rosa in 1984, and immediately reconnected with many of Beverly's Santa Rosa High School friends but also formed many new friendships. They were avid golfers and bridge players, and Beverly was very active in the P.E.O. women's group, whose members and mission became important in her life. Beverly enjoyed travelling, and visited many countries over the years with her husband, family, and friends. She also enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, and spending time with friends and family. She will be remembered for her gracious and cheerful attitude under any and all circumstances, her wonderful sense of humor, her impressive poker face, and her lifelong love of Santa Rosa. Beverly is survived by her daughters Susan (Steven Rothfeld) Swan of St. Helena, California and Linda (Vance) Akinaka of Haiku, Maui, Hawaii. Also surviving her are ten grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, who passed away in 2009, her son Robert Allen Swan, Jr., (Sandy), and her grandson Jarren Po'aikealoha Tuitele. She was interred next to her husband at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific on Oahu, Hawaii on April 24th surrounded by numerous family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to the Santa Rosa High School Foundation, PO Box 11006, Santa Rosa, CA.
