David Wynn Crane

CRANE, David Wynn Born Shanghai, China, October 3, 1913, passed away March 21, 2002, aged 88 years. His wife, Wilma Billie Roof Crane, a Santa Rosa native, preceded him in death in 1975. Dave was a great grandson of Robert Crane, who with his brothers, settled in what is now Rohnert Park in 1852. He attended Santa Rosa Junior College where he met and married his wife in 1937. His first position with American Trust Company, which later joined with Wells Fargo Bank, was in Santa Rosa and was the beginning of a 60 year career in banking. A Concord resident for the past 34 years, Dave retired from his position as Bank Manager with Wells Fargo Bank, Concord Main Branch, in 1978. He continued as a consultant for Wells Fargo and celebrated 60 years service in 1996. He was a member of Concord Elks Lodge #1994 and a charter member of Sonoma, Concord and Concord/Diablo Rotary Clubs, serving as President of Concord/Diablo in 1980. Dave was a founder of the Century Club and served on the Diablo Scholarship Board, was an organizer of the Mt. Diablo Hospital Foundation, and avid supporter of the YMCA and the Boy Scouts of America and sponsored 12 exchange students. In 1950 to 1955 Dave and his family enjoyed the tropical paradise of Pago Pago, American Samoa, while he served as the Manager of the Bank of American Samoa. He is survived by his son Richard Wynn Crane and daughter-in-law Carolyn Crane of Penn Valley, and son Stephen Joel Crane and daughter-in-law Kathryn Crane of Seattle, WA; grandchildren Lawrence and Penny Crane of Portland, OR and Christina, Elliott and Natalie Crane of Seattle, WA; great-granddaughter Tabitha Mell-Crane of Portland, OR; sister Dorothy Bielen of Truckee. Memorial Services will be held Thursday, March 28th 1:00 p.m. at the Bryant & Moore Chapel, 1385 Gallindo Street, Concord, CA (925) 682-1100.
