Bonnie Peterson Obituary

BONNIE DOT PETERSON April 20, 1929-February 16, 2014 Bonnie was born in Dewar, Oklahoma on April 20,1929 to John and Myrtle Stapp. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Howard D. Peterson, eight brothers and sisters and grandson Bryan Peterson. She is survived by her sister, Jerry Gonzales, formerly of Beaumont, by her five children: Klay Peterson of Spartanburg, SC, Debra Jacobs of Farmington, MM, Dennis Peterson of Gallup, NM, Diane Anguiano of Beaumont, CA and Heather Callaway of Farmington, NM. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. When she was a small child, Bonnie's family moved to Hollywood, California from Oklahoma during the dust bowl years of the early 1930's. Her first job upon high school graduation was as a stenographer at Los Angeles City Hall. She married her first husband, Richard Herman, in 1950 and from that union her first two children, Debra and Dennis were born. When she married Howard Peterson she was fortunate to add another son, Klay, to her brood. And from that union she was blessed with two more girls, Diane and Heather. Bormie and Howard's life took them from several cities in California to the Navajo Reservation in Arizona, to Gallup, New Mexico and finally to retirement in Beaumont and lived in the same house on Beaumont Avenue that her parents built in 1960. Bonnie and Howard were both very active in the Banning VFW and after Howard passed away in 1993 Bormie also became active in the Eagles Club of Beaumont. She was a talented painter of landscapes and belonged to area art clubs as well. Bonnie enjoyed yard sale treasure hunting (check out future yard sale ads ©). For many years she loved the annual dove hunting trips her family took to Mesa, Arizona where her marksmanship was legendary! However, her grandchildren were the light of her life and liked to say that becoming a grandmother was her greatest accomplishment. Her declining health brought her back to New Mexico where she could be tended to by three of her children. It was there that she passed away peacefully on February 16, 2014 at the age of 84. She will be interred at Riverside National Cemetery beside her doting Howard. Bonnie was a beautiful person inside and out and will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren and so many others. We love you. Mama. Bonnie is in the care of Weaver Mortuary.. A viewing will take place on Friday, February 21 at 9:00AM with a memorial service immediately following at 10:15AM. This is a touching and beautiful obituary, and a fine tribute to her life. She was a fortunate woman to be surrounded by, cared for, and loved by her family. You have honored her greatly.

I never met Bonnie but have known two of her children Heather and her family and Dennis and his family for 30 years. Bonnie had to have been a wonderful person because she raised wonderful children.
God be with each of you during this time of sadness and loss.
My prayers are with your family.
